We wish to honor the passing of one of the earliest supporters and longtime member of the Greenbelt Land Trust. Larry Merriam was a founding member of the Greenbelt Land Trust, a lifelong supporter of conservation and along with his wife Katherine an important voice for good works in the Corvallis community.
He served on the Greenbelt Board of Directors for six years and was instrumental in moving the organization forward to a well respected and effective land trust in the Willamette Valley. Larry was one of a local group of citizens who saw the potential and need for a local land trust who could work to protect the special lands of our communities. His vision and hard work formed the foundation of the Greenbelt.
We appreciated his thoughtful insights and guidance. His sense of humor, humility and stories of his growing up in the redwoods and Yosemite Valley provided a nice counterpoint to the more mundane aspects of our board governance.
Larry was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. We will miss his commitment to Corvallis and conservation. Our sympathies go out to his wife Katherine and family.
Donations to the Greenbelt made in honor of Larry can be addressed to the Greenbelt Land Trust and mailed to PO Box 1721, Corvallis OR 97339.
